Hideous Progeny - Single

$1.00

"Hideous Progeny" is the third single and the centerpiece of *The Mirror Test*. In June 1816, in a villa on Lake Geneva, an eighteen-year-old woman wrote a novel about a man who built a creature he could not control. The volcanic dark of the Year Without a Summer was outside the window. Mary Shelley would later call the book her hideous progeny. The song sits inside the moment of writing, sung from the writer's point of view rather than the scientist's. The chorus is the recognition the song imagines her arriving at as the page fills: they will call him by my name. The book went forth and prospered, and the prospering ate her name. The creature is still called Frankenstein.
